Rockstar Games founder Dan Houser has confirmed that he did not write the story for Grand Theft Auto 6.

In an interview with IGN, Houser was asked how it felt not knowing everything about the next game in the franchise. Houser said this:

In a way (it will be strange). I think it be a great privilege to have worked on something that big.

I wrote the last 10 or 11 of them. I think world had enough GTA from me. They’re always a new story.

It won’t be a story I wrote or a character set I developed but I think it will be exciting. The game will be great I’m sure.

As you can see, Houser wasn’t asked the question directly. But it didn’t take that much prodding for Dan to confirm this information now.

Dan Houser’s Impact On Grand Theft Auto

Dan and his brother Sam Houser originally worked at BMG Interactive when they saw a DMA Design preview for an open world video game called Race’N’Chase. They made a deal for BMG to publish the game.

In 1998, Take-Two would acquire BMG, DMA Design, and Race’N’Chase. They would reorganize BMG’s assets to launch Rockstar Games, with the Housers named as its founders.

DMA Design would be renamed to Rockstar North, and Race’N’Chase would release under the name we know today, Grand Theft Auto.

The Housers would go on to be writers and producers of all the Grand Theft Auto games prior to Grand Theft Auto 6.

Dan Houser’s Non-Contribution To Grand Theft Auto 6

Houser left Rockstar Games in 2020. Fans still hoped that he still had some input in the game. There was even a rumor last June that Houser wrote three story drafts for Grand Theft Auto 6.

At the time, we pointed out its common for game pitches to start over. Some fans were hoping that the younger Houser still left his touch on the game. He just ended all speculation.

Lest we forget, Dan’s brother Sam Houser still works for Rockstar Games. Sam remained on board to work on Grand Theft Auto 6, but he also did so with a new group of creators at the helm as well.
