New LEGO Batman Game Will Be A True “Fusion” Of Legendary Moments and Content

September 1, 2025 by Todd Black

This one is all the Knights!

There are lots of reasons why people are still talking about the new LEGO Batman game that’s coming after it made its debut at Gamescom last month. One of the biggest reasons is that, unlike the previous titles, this one seems to be drawing from ALL walks of Batman’s long and storied career. The very first trailer featured things like an open world, free-flow combat, and multiple references to the movies, both past and very recent present. The question is why the team went this particular path, and how it’ll all come together to be something special. Thankfully, one of the game directors was able to clear that up.

In a chat with GamesRadar+, Jonathan Smith noted that the team has “drawn upon decades of reference material and fantastic stories about Batman in movies, TV shows, comics, and games, and brought them all together into one definitive, essential, epic story of Batman.”

This is a key difference from what the team has done before with past LEGO titles with Batman, as those told original stories featuring the beloved cast of characters, both heroic and villainous, that lived in Gotham City before expanding things to encompass the rest of the DC Comics universe.

Now, though, the new game will go and attempt to be something different by acknowledging all the various versions of Batman via the movies, games, comics, and beyond, and putting them into a singular story:

“So it’s a fusion of all those iconic moments that you remember, laced and woven with deep cut references and our own humorous jokes, to bring the experience of becoming the Dark Knight to life for players. We draw upon them all, and we bring them together, and then we create one story that unifies and is essential.”

This would be a challenge for just about anyone to pull off, especially when you consider the different styles and stories that have been put across all those mediums in the past, all the while, adapting the game to fit the “LEGO Mold,” but Smith said the team is up for it and they love the chance they have to do something special here:

“We feel we’ve got the richest amount of material to draw from, and we are so excited that no one’s ever put all those pieces together in one experience with a video game. “

LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight will drop in 2026, and we’ll see just how well the team pulled things off.
