Another rumor about Red Dead Redemption 2 has returned.
TREVOR4REAL shared this claim on Twitter:
According to a reliable source, the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 versions of #RedDeadRedemption2 are planned for this month of August
An announcement is expected in the coming days, with the game potentially releasing shortly after.
We don’t know anything about this account, and they don’t seem to have a prior track record for rumors. They also don’t have anyone backing their rumor up, at least as best as we can tell. In spite of all that, there’s a reason we’re covering this rumor.

This Rumor Has Come Up Before
Last May of this year, Necro Felipe of Universo Nintendo claimed that Red Dead Redemption 2 was coming to the Switch 2. In August 2024, Coffeesneeze claimed it should be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is a trailer for these ports that has since disappeared from the internet.
Outside of these two, there have been various vague rumors of upcoming announcements about Red Dead Redemption 2. Because of the timing of these vague rumors, the consensus is these were actually about these potential ports.
Do We Want Red Dead Redemption 2 On These Platforms?
Red Dead Redemption 2 released all the way back in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A year later, it came to PC. After that it would become Steam Deck compatible.
In spite of its age, there’s no doubt that there will always be demand for any new Red Dead Redemption 2 ports. It remains one of the most critically and commercially successful games of all time. It also still holds the record of the second highest launch for a video game.
You can play Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S now using backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively. However, it’s clear that newer ports optimized for the current generation will be in high demand.
The Switch 2 is a special situation because Nintendo and Nvidia worked on a platform that can play 8th generation and even 9th generation games. A lot of games that previously passed on Nintendo, even on the Switch, have shown up with their games for the Switch 2’s launch.
Contrary to expectations, Rockstar Games does have a working relationship with Nintendo today. They already published Red Dead Redemption on the original Switch. It may seem unlikely but there’s a great possibility that Rockstar would bring Red Dead Redemption 2 to the Switch 2 if it was technically possible.
So even if this source is unknown, we can’t dismiss this rumor completely. TREVOR4REAL now has 25 days to go to be proven right about this port that people would love to happen for real.
