EA CEO Says No To $80 Games

July 30, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

EA won’t be making any drastic changes right now.

Video game prices have been all over the place. However, for the longest time, we saw some standards come in with AAA games costing players $60. That eventually rose with the latest generation of platforms up to $70. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for some companies, as Nintendo was the first to jump in with $80 games. Now that this price point has been established, investors are curious if everyone will jump on board. Currently, EA CEO Andrew Wilson isn’t keen on this move.

We’re not seeing too many $80 games quite yet. Nintendo might have introduced this price point, but even they seem uncertain about which games will command this price tag on store shelves. So, it’s nice to see that not everyone is jumping onto this bandwagon. That said, it doesn’t mean these companies will be staying away from the jump forever.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson Says No to $80 Games

It might come as a shock that a big company like EA has a CEO who is not interested in committing to raising their game prices. However, they are not ruling it out forever. Thanks to IGN, we’re finding out that an earnings call noted that an investor asked the CEO about raising the prices of video games to $80. Andrew Wilson stated the following.

That’s in the construct of, we already offer a fairly broad pricing scheme across our various products. When you think about everything from free-to-play through to our premium products and deluxe editions, our orientation is always to capture the full spectrum of pricing so that we can serve players in the best way possible and offer them the greatest value. We’ll continue to look at opportunities to deliver great value to our players through various pricing schemes over the course of time, but no dramatic changes planned yet.

So, it looks like EA’s CEO is content with the price points they currently hit across their free-to-play games and premium titles. That’s a relief for some players who might have been interested in upcoming games like Battlefield 6. But again, it is noted that there’s nothing in the plans right now.

There’s a chance we might see EA eventually adjust the price of their games. That said, it also depends on consumers, as Xbox attempted this with The Outer Worlds 2. Fans didn’t take that very well, and it eventually caused the price to drop back down to $70. We’ll just have to see how common $80 games might end up being as we head into the coming year.
