Walmart Now Allows Switch 2 To Be Re-Ordered For Cancelled Orders

June 3, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

You’ll want to be diligent about your Switch 2 pre-orders.

We now have a small update on Switch 2 console orders getting cancelled.

Nintendo opened up pre-orders for the Switch 2 with US retailers before they could complete the process for their most loyal fans on their own system. Of course, these were part of some bigger plans to ensure that the console wouldn’t’ be gobbled up by scalpers to be marked up immediately after launch.

In the last two weeks, several US retailers started cancelling pre-orders. The cancellations started stacking up to the point that we reported it yesterday. But it seems that content creators SwitchUp had a theory on why it was happening:

A lot of companies using this “problem with your card” lie to justify cancelling the Switch 2 pre orders that actually they oversold pre orders for. Glen had this type of email from Game here in the UK the other day only for them to do a U-turn a day later. Sheeeesh.

Another content creator, Nintendo Prime, put forward another theory for the cancellations. As he explained, these retailers have a system that tries to check if you have the funds to pay for a pre-order in advance, and will cancel your order if it isn’t there. That can be troublesome for people who do know they’ll have the money on the day, but just don’t have it in advance.

In Nintendo Prime’s case, however, he claims he was charged for one Switch 2 pre-order three times over by Walmart. His order was safe because he had the money, but that could be how some people’s orders are cancelled.

Thankfully, we have some updates for Walmart. As Jake Randall explained on Twitter, the retailer is allowing their customer to re-order the Switch 2.

If you had an order in Walmart, what you’ll want to do is go to the website and check your cart. If you’re eligible, you will see a message that says ‘single use.’ Some customers have also revealed that they received an email informing them their pre-order was cancelled ‘due to a system error.’ In this case, they will tell you to check your cart, and that you have 24 hours to re-order.

Whether you received an email or not, you don’t have to do anything else to the order that’s been restored to your cart. To secure the restored order, all you have to do is check out. If you made a pre-order through Walmart, you should check its status either way. Of course, if there’s no change to your pre-order status, your order should just be good.
