Rumor: Next Nintendo Direct Is Scheduled For The Week Of The Switch 2 Launch, Or The Week After

May 26, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

June 2025 is slated to be one of the biggest for video games.

There’s been speculation for the last two months about when Nintendo will host their next Nintendo Direct. After the 1st big Nintendo Direct last April 2, fans slowly realized that Nintendo needs to share a lot more information.

On one end, we’ve been hearing a lot of rumors that there are far more third-party games coming for the Switch 2 than have already been announced, that are also coming for its launch year. While several of those games could be revealed by their publishers, Nintendo will of course want to help spread the word on those games as well.

On another end, fans have been critical of how Nintendo has been relaying information about the Switch 2. From the hardware features, to finer details of its capabilities, and also the many available services, Nintendo has been relaying the information too slowly, and have also been providing clarifications and follow-ups. Even now, it makes sense to have another Nintendo Direct to explain the hardware.

As reported by GoNintendo, Brazilian video game journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, AKA PH Brazil, has a new rumor about Nintendo Directs. He claimed in a Twitch livestream that Nintendo’s next Direct is coming up on either the week that the Switch 2 launches or the week after.

And therein lies the rub. Because even if this rumor did not emerge, it would have been easy to speculate that this was the time frame for Nintendo’s next Direct. Xbox Games Showcase, Summer Games Fest, Future Games Show, and Wholesome Direct have all revealed their events scheduled between June 6 to 8, 2025. These events start a day after the launch of the Switch 2, on June 5, 2025.

But then again, there’s a reason why PH Brazil gave himself leeway for the Direct to arrive the following week. A cursory look at Nintendo’s June events in the past decade would reveal that Nintendo usually schedules their Directs on the 3rd or 4th week of June. This does not seem to be a ‘tradition’ per se, but it’s more about Nintendo keeping some distance from other companies’ presentations so that they can keep as much attention for themselves as possible.

Given Nintendo’s track record, there is a possibility that PH Brazil’s prediction is wrong. They may decide to schedule a Direct for the Switch 2 launch weekend, and bump into the same dates these other events are in. We could see Nintendo, for example, scheduling a Direct on June 7, and perhaps place it a few hours apart from this year’s Future Games Show.

In any case, there’s no reason to doubt that a Direct is definitely planned for next month. Two years after the ESA decided to retire E3, June remains the biggest month video games promotion. Everyone who scheduled events around E3 is continuing to hold their events around the month, and no, Summer Games Fest did not become so important that it’s taken over the E3 name.

Jeff Grubb has already shared that he believes Sony will also have an event this June, but disappointing fans, it will be another State of Play instead of a Showcase. Even if Sony doesn’t have a lot to show, June 2025 still appears to be a huge one for the video game industry, as we’ll be introduced and shown some of the biggest games of this generation for sure.
