PowerA Confirms Its Switch 2 Controllers Will Feature Hall Effect Sticks

May 23, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

In case you fear the dreaded stick drift!

It was a very odd move when we found out that the Nintendo Switch 2 won’t feature Hall Effect sticks. That’s a big disappointment for fans and, again, very odd because of the issues that plagued so many players with the original Joy-Cons. While we’ll have to wait and see if the new Joy-Cons will have issues arising from the lack of Hall Effect sticks, one company is already boasting that they’ll deliver on that front. PowerA is gearing up to release its controllers, with the Hall Effect sticks to keep you playing.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, it might be worth catching you back up. If you’re unfamiliar with Hall Effect sticks, these are analog sticks for game controllers that use magnetic sensors. So rather than having components actively in contact and wear out, these should keep your analog sticks operating as intended. That’s great because now you have a far longer lifespan with those components and can steer clear from drift.

PowerA Advantage Wired Controller

That was the big ordeal Nintendo faced with their Joy-Cons. Most found their controllers drifting. This is when an analog stick component triggers movement despite you not even touching the controller. So, it was believed that when the Nintendo Switch 2 would arrive, this would be one of the big components featured, but oddly enough, it’s not.

Again, we’ll have to wait and see if the new Joy-Cons significantly improve this area. However, thanks to Nintendo Everything, we’re discovering that PowerA is confirming that their Advantage Wired Controller for the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature Hall Effect modules. That’s a big plus, but there are also a few cons.

You can only use the controller when it’s docked, and it doesn’t feature HD rumble, IR camera, motion controls, or amiibo NFC. Of course, we might see more controllers come out into the marketplace that will feature these bells and whistles while also featuring Hall Effect sticks after the Nintendo Switch 2 console launches next month.
