Bloober Shares An Action Filled Sneak Peek Into Cronos: The New Dawn

March 28, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

It’s starting to make more sense what Bloober is trying to do with this one.

Bloober Team has shared a new sneak peek that finally gives us a better idea of what to expect in Cronos: The New Dawn.

We’ve already reported on Bloober’s far-out science fiction premise but it certainly felt like they were still holding back on what we were supposed to expect from this game.  However, Bloober has shared a new sneak peek video that finally shows us some of the combat.

And as it turns out, this part of the game looks very much like Dead Space. Your playable character, the Traveler, certainly evokes Isaac’s Resource Integration Gear, which in turn, and some may also see some visual elements inspired by Samus’ different suits as well. Unlike Isaac, the Traveler doesn’t seem to have any weapons that particularly dismember their enemies, but that’s where Bloober takes the game on its own direction.

Since the game revolved around the idea of looking for human survivors, we can see a variety of enemies and settings where you have to confront theme. There isn’t that much nuance to figuring out who potential enemies are; they’re clearly inhuman, even as many of them take humanoid shapes, and some of them will shriek at you the moment they see you.

We also see that the Traveler can switch their weapon around on the fly, with the weapon doing some phase shifting instead of just getting physically replaced.

Now, clearly, there’s still a lot that Bloober is holding close to their chest, but this should end any speculation on how close this game will be to their Silent Hill 2 remake, or the Layers of Fear games that they made before that. This is definitely a different animal.

We don’t think most fans will complain about the seeming familiarity that Cronos: The New Dawn evokes, because of its similarity to other games. A game that’s as preoccupied with its lore as, say, Tarkovsky’s film adaptation of Solaris was more preoccupied with atmosphere than storytelling, could be a game that’s limited in its appeal. Thankfully, this game appears to be more than just a creepy, but unexciting adventure.

And it certainly raises the question; can Bloober make a good shooter game? We suspect Cronos: The New Dawn will not necessarily focus on combat in gameplay, but we’re ready to be pleasantly surprised.

Cronos: The New Dawn is releasing in Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, in 2025. In the meantime, you can watch the sneak peek video below.
