GTA 6 Map Mod For GTA 5 Was Taken Down

March 24, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

That mod didn’t last very long.

There is plenty of hype built around Grand Theft Auto 6. The game has been anticipated for years, and we know that Rockstar Games plans to launch it within this calendar year. Now, whether that still happens or not remains to be seen. But the hype hasn’t died down, and GTA 6-focused mods were showing up on GTA 5. One of those mods that gained a lot of attention last week has been killed off.

If you caught the mod announcement this past week, Dark Space released a map mod for GTA 5. Players would gain access to GTA 6’s map through the game and get a small potential look at what the upcoming game might be like. Now, it’s not the official map but a project that brought in what the community felt would be as close to accurate from what little information they had.

In the announcement trailer that dropped highlighting the mod, Dark Space noted that there was a chance Take-Two Interactive would strike the mod down. But if the mod survived the potential takedown notice, then Dark Space would continue working on the project. Today, thanks to Insider Gaming, we’re finding out that Dark Space had removed the mod.

In a video uploaded to further explain what happened, this all stems back to Take-Two Interactive. It looks like the video highlighting the mod was hit with a copyright strike. That alone prompted Dark Space to remove the mod. Interestingly enough, Dark Space noted that this strike came without any attempt of contact from Take-Two, as the modder would have complied if asked.

It’s not shocking to see this mod removed; we’ve seen plenty of other mods recently taken down over Take-Two Interactive. Unfortunately, we’re still left in the dark about the next installment. We haven’t seen anything else since its official announcement trailer over a year ago. Regardless, GTA 6 is still set to launch at some point this year.
