Saber Interactive Is Coming Back For Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3

March 14, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

This one is clearly fated for the next console generation.

Focus Entertainment has announced Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.

They shared this statement on their website:

“Focus Entertainment Publishing, a subsidiary of PULLUP Entertainment Group, Games Workshop, and Saber Interactive are proud to announce the development of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, the next installment in the legendary franchise set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.”

Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch shared this statement upon the announcement:

“Space Marine 2 has proven to be a transformative game for Saber.  It is the culmination of everything we have learned about game development in our 25 years in the business.  We are now starting to develop Space Marine 3, a game that carries with it tremendous expectations from our rapidly expanding fanbase.

While we will continue to support and grow the Space Marine 2 universe over the coming years, we will take all our learnings and apply them to an even bigger and more spectacular game for the third installment.  We view this as an opportunity to create a true love letter to the Warhammer 40.000 universe.”

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched in September 9, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S to commercial and critical success. While the production faced several challenges, including a series of delays, and the pending breakup of their parent company, Embracer Group, Saber Interactive proved that they did level up to make a hack-and-slash third person shooter with impeccable game design, elevating them to one of the best active game studios today.

Saber Interactive started talking about making a sequel as early as two weeks into Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s launch. Subsequently, Games Workshop, the tabletop game company that owns Warhammer 40,000, expressed interest in making a sequel with their own shareholders just this January.

What’s particularly important here is that Saber Interactive is seeing this success at a time where the industry is still reeling in its third year of industry layoffs and studio closures.  It’s the first time the industry has been in this loss state for this long, and that makes the successes that much more important.

We’re hopeful that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 won’t be taking another 14 years to make, but it does seem that if Saber is only starting development now, that this game won’t be up until the next generation of video game consoles appears, and we don’t just mean the Switch 2. There’ll definitely be a generational leap by the time this title arrives, so we may look forward to an even bigger third-party shooter ramp then.
