The Last of Us Season 2 Already Hits A Major Milestone Before It Even Aired

March 13, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Fans cannot wait for this one!

The Last of Us is about to have a major resurgence again. If you have been keeping tabs, you probably know that The Last of Us season 2 is set to debut on HBO next month. But before that show returns, HBO is already hitting a significant milestone. Turns out, there are more than a few fans out there eager to sit in on this drama series.

Thanks to a report from The Wrap, we’re learning today that The Last of Us season 2’s official trailer, which was released this month, brought in over 158 million views across all platforms. That’s a massive number, especially for HBO, as it’s reportedly the biggest viewed trailer from HBO in its history within that time period.

Fans cannot wait for this series to begin and to watch how Joel and Ellie’s journey progresses. Fortunately, the wait won’t be too much longer, as it’s just a month out. But even before that show kicks off again, we have some insight into what we can expect. For instance, the new trailer highlights that spores will play a bigger role this time around when it comes to infections.

A previous comment from Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, who is aiding in the show’s production, also confirmed there will be an escalation of infection types. So, we might see even more infections pop up that are unique to this series rather than what was already covered in the video games.

Meanwhile, we also know that a key character from The Last of Us Part II is set to appear in the series. If you played the game, you know Abby is a prominent character for the entire narrative. They are also a character that brought a lot of backlash to Naughty Dog at the time. Fortunately, the actress stepping into this role is fully aware of the reception behind Abby from the video game and is not letting that get in the way of bringing this character to life.

Again, we don’t have long to wait before we’ll get our first episode of The Last of Us season 2. You can expect it to be released on HBO on April 13, 2025. If you have yet to check out the trailer for the season, that video will be featured below.
