Fallout Originally Had A Third Ending That Was Scrapped

February 25, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Tim Cain shares details!

Fallout is such an iconic video game franchise today. It’s also seen a major resurgence of players, both veterans and newcomers alike. Thanks to the hit Amazon Prime Video series that adapted the IP, Fallout has become a well-known franchise to gamers and nongamers alike. So, if you had that itch to go back and replay or experience the first title for the first time, you’ll find that there are just two endings to unlock.

When players endure a challenging journey to acquire the water chip, it’s not a welcome home party when the credits roll. Essentially, players can return to the vault, only being exiled afterward or an ending where they become a mutant. Depending on the choices you make along the way will determine what ending you manage to unlock. However, a third ending almost made it to the game.

Tim Cain, one of the few people to help get this IP off the ground, had brought up the third ending in a new video upload, which we learned about thanks to Insider Gaming. Apparently, the ending he was looking to bring out ended on a far more positive note. The pitched idea would have players successfully getting the water chip and taking care of the mutant army. Afterward, you would be able to once again return to Vault 13.

However, what makes this ending a little different from the initial good ending of the game is that players would not be exiled. Instead, they would have a giant party with cake and balloons.

That pitched idea was ultimately rejected, and we instead focused on a more bleak outcome. Still, it’s interesting to learn more about what almost came to fruition with this iconic franchise. Meanwhile, for Amazon Prime Video series fans, we’re still waiting to get word on when the second season will hit. Of course, even the stars filming the show can’t wait for viewers to tune in and watch where the story takes them next.
