Ubisoft Officially Reveals Rainbow Six Siege X

February 17, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

Don’t call it a comeback.

Ubisoft has officially revealed Rainbow Six Siege X.

They shared this message on the game’s official blog:

“A new era is on the horizon for Rainbow Six Siege —one that sets the stage for the years to come of tactical and unique gameplay— and we’d like to invite you to be a part of it: welcome to Siege X!

The R6 team has been working tirelessly to bring to life the biggest transformation in the game’s history and its purpose is to reinforce Rainbow Six Siege’s position at the top of tactical first-person shooters by introducing new ways to play, deepened tactical gameplay, refined game feel and major upgrades all around.”

Ubisoft went on to announce the Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase, where they will share the full details of this project. This will be a live broadcast event, to be held in in Atlanta, Georgia on March 13th, 2025 at 5pm GMT / 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm CET.

Two weeks ago, we reported a rumor that leaked Siege X. The source claimed that this is not a Rainbow Six Siege 2. Instead, it will be an overhaul of the game engine, with upgraded textures and models. It would seem that the little we have seen in the preview confirms this bit.

However, some parts of this rumor have also been debunked. The source claimed that Rainbow Six Siege X would be revealed in the Six Invitational that happened this weekend. It’s possible that Ubisoft waited until the end of the show to make this reveal to debunk said rumor. But it’s more likely that they decided to let the esports teams enjoy their tournament without distraction.

This may be the first good news coming out of Ubisoft without any qualifications. While it looks like Assassin’s Creed Shadows may overcome its earlier controversies to be successful, the Rainbow Six players seem excited at the prospect of Rainbow Six Siege X without anyone raising any complaints.

Ubisoft needs as much positive buzz like this as they can, especially now that their big bet on live service XDefiant is set to be retired shortly.

Of course, all of this depends on what we actually see at the Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase. We think fans would be reasonable to assume that on top of the graphical overhaul, Ubisoft will have worked extensively on the game design, and hopefully just freshen everything up to get players excited again. Ubisoft would also be best served by laying off live service or subscription elements for now, but with their backs to the wall, we think Rainbow Six’s developers were allowed to just do what it takes to win the fans back.
