God of War fans might be in for a surprise, with developers going further back with the Kratos storyline. While we started to see Kratos deal with new mythology with the soft reboot, a rumor suggests that we might be taking a step back to Greece. However, the key word here is rumor, as even the industry insider who brought this to everyone’s attention hasn’t verified if this is the case.
We have seen Kratos and his incredibly short temper fight and slay countless gods. But what if we go further back, where a younger Kratos is back in Greece and likely dealing with an even shorter fuse? That’s the idea we might be getting, as industry insider Tom Henderson recently commented on the rumor during a recent Insider Gaming Weekly podcast episode.
Tom noted that he had received a message alerting him that the next game would focus on a storyline with his father back in Greece. Now, that would take things in a unique direction as God of War Ragnarok focused again on Kratos and his son Atreus.
This also contradicts previous rumors that the next installment of the beloved God of War franchise would take place in Egypt. Again, this is all rumors right now, so we don’t know where or even when Kratos will land for his next grand adventure.
Of course, some fans might start to wonder if this prequel will lead to a new reboot or remastered release for the original set of God of War games. At any rate, we’ll have to wait for now and see if any new reports surface from credible industry insiders on this IP. Meanwhile, there are rumors that Sony is gearing up to make some new announcements of their own. A State of Play event has been rumored to happen this month, but we haven’t received any official word on if this is the case.
