No Man’s Sky Brings In Tons Of New Content Via Update

January 29, 2025 by Todd Black

The universe keeps growing…

Given that the last several gaming years have shown what happens when you make a bad game at launch and then give up on it, it’s refreshing when developers and publishers “knuckle down” to admit their mistakes and then push hard to fix what was broken. Long before the rush of “broken games at launch,” Hello Games made numerous promises for its then-upcoming title, No Man’s Sky, and stated that this would be one of the most satisfying exploration games ever due to the size of the universe you could explore. Obviously, this wasn’t fully true, as the universe was rather empty, and gamers weren’t amused with what they did find in it.

However, over the course of years, Hello Games improved the title to the point that it’s got a passionate fanbase and the developer is STILL making game-changing content for it. As revealed on the PlayStation Blog, the “Worlds Part II” update has come, and it’s bringing plenty of content for people to enjoy.

Hello Games founder Sean Murray happily broke down what the update offers, and it’s substantial:

“One of the biggest reasons people play No Man’s Sky is for that sense of adventure and discovery, that feeling of flying to a planet and landing to explore, knowing no one has ever been there before. With Worlds Part II, we added billions of new star systems and trillions of new planets to the universe. This allows us to push the boundaries of our engine and technology without changing the things people love about the game already. If you settled on your home planet with a beautiful base that you lovingly crafted, that is safe – but now there are new worlds to explore with a level of variety no one has seen before.”

Murray promises that it’s not merely just “new planets to explore” but new ways to explore them, including an all-new terrain system that Murray himself put into action. That means you’ll be able to climb mountains, dive deep into the various worlds’ oceans, or see how far you can go in canyons, caves, etc.

Or, if you see a gas giant that looks interesting to you, go into it and see if your ship will survive! You’ll also notice upgrades to the physics and lighting engines, ensuring that you have an even more beautiful and realistic experience as you go about your exploration of the universe.

You can see many of these additions for yourself in the video below.
