We have a wild new Switch 2 rumor that may not pass your personal sniff test, but is raising alarms among fans for a good reason.
On the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, user ertaboy356b shared that an Alibaba store listing appeared for a Switch 2 tempered glass cover, as well as a Switch 2 carry case.
These links seem to be locked behind the 1688 app, which may only be available in China. As best as we can tell, these are legitimately on an Alibaba store.
In spite of this, ertaboy356b shared images that were apparently taken from these store listings, and were shared on Famiboards. You can see the images here and here, but we’ll describe what you need to know.
Because you don’t need to see the images to learn that the Switch 2 tempered glass cover, and the Switch 2 carry case are bigger than those for the original Switch. The Famiboards images seem to show both versions of the tempered glass covers and carry cases for the original Switch and the new Switch 2.
So, why are these store listings creating such a commotion? Wouldn’t it be easy for any Chinese retailer to make these items, just guessing on what people would buy? Where did they even find out that the Switch 2 is bigger?
Well, there are two possibilities. One is something we reported a few months ago. It’s possible that they also saw Chinese language YouTuber小宁子 XNZ’s video about the Switch 2. 小宁子 XNZ 3D printed what was a rumored Switch 2 CAD image, and she demonstrated that the Switch 2 would be considerably bigger in a way that was easy to visualize.
The rumor of a larger Switch 2 did not start with小宁子 XNZ, but she literally and figuratively brought that rumor up to life. So it’s possible that this Alibaba retailer saw小宁子 XNZ’s video, or they saw the rumor from other sources, and made these items in preparation.
The other possibility is the one the fans probably want to be true. It’s possible this retailer is a Nintendo partner, like Mobapad. Mobapad, a company that makes video game peripherals, was the very visible source of the rumor that the Switch 2 will have magnetic Joy-Cons.
Because as the time runs out for Nintendo’s self-appointed deadline to reveal the Switch 2, there will be more and more sources for information that will just let out. We have already seen a bunch of developers allude to or hint at their game being developed for the Switch 2 as well, so of course other companies would do it too.
But whether all of these are real leaks, or some are just people and entities trying to get attention, we can’t really be sure of. It’s absolutely possible that 小宁子 XNZ printed those CAD images for nothing and the Switch 2 is just something else.
At least for now, the people who wanted a bigger Switch 2 got the additional evidence that they wanted. And we can just expect the Switch 2 rumors to get wilder, and maybe even more esoteric, the longer we wait for Nintendo to finally show us.
