October was quite an interesting month in the gaming space, and it had many big titles release during its 31-day run. So, which ones should you have gotten? Check out our list below!
#10 Red Dead Redemption
There are some games that are just so iconic that you can’t help but bring them to new platforms when the opportunity presents itself. Red Dead Redemption has finally come to PC/Steam, and that means if you’ve never taken on the quest of John Marston, you can do it now on your computer!
Marston is trying to live a quiet life with his family when he’s forced to go take down the former members of the gang he was in: The Van Der Linde Gang. Ride your horse and shoot down those who stand in your way.
Then, take on the undead expansion campaign and see if your shot is good enough to take down zombies!
#9 Batman: Arkham Shadow
The fact that we’re putting any kind of VR title on this list should tell you quite a bit. After all, VR games are supposed to “be the future,” but the amount of people playing them is few.
Yet, with games like Batman: Arkham Shadow, you’ll see the appeal of wanting more high-quality VR titles. The game takes place within the four games of the “Arkham World,” and you’ll once again be Batman as you attempt to learn the truth behind the mysterious Ratcatcher!
You’ll fight through the perspective of Batman himself and see the arrival of certain key characters from the main games! Oh, we hope you have the Meta 3 so you can play it!
#8 Until Dawn
We’ll have plenty of remakes and remasters on this list, and Until Dawn falls into the remake category of the lot.
The game is a full-on visual overhaul of the original horror title, allowing you to see things in better detail while also seeing more emotions from those who are partaking in the horrifying events. The title places you within a group of friends who return to a winter resort a year after terrifying events happen.
Except, now the events are happening to all of you, and you need to learn the truth about what really happened a year ago and work to try and save everyone. Your choices will decide all of your fates.
#7 Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Max Caulfield is back, and her powers will be more important than ever before as Life is Strange: Double Exposure unfolds. The story begins with Max finding the body of her dear friend Safi, dead after a mysterious attack. Just when she feels all is lost, she unlocks a new version of her power, which allows her to enter an alternate reality where Safi is alive!
Now, jumping back and forth between the two versions of reality, she must find the truth about who killed Safi, why, and keep her alive in this new reality while avenging her in the other.
Not everything is what it seems, so dig deep to learn what really happened!
#6 Dragon Age: The Veilguard
We’re sure that many of you aren’t happy that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is on this list, but you can’t deny that it was one of the biggest releases in October, and there are at least some people who like it, so that’s enough to put it on here.
The long-gestating Bioware title has gone through several changes over the years of its development, including its story, characters, gameplay, etc. Your mission is to assemble a crew to take on a threat of terrifying scale. One that could end the world as a whole while corrupting all within.
So, rise up, fight back, and do what you need to do to seal away this terror.
#5 Silent Hill 2
There were a lot of remasters and remakes released in October, but arguably, the best of the lot is the Silent Hill 2 Remake. It’s a full-on visual and gameplay of the all-time classic PlayStation 2 title that horror fans still praise to this day. You play James, a man who is on the hunt for the truth about his wife. When he receives a letter from her beckoning him to Silent Hill, he goes without delay, only to find himself in a town full of monsters!
Chief among them is the fearsome Pyramid Head. But what is it about this town that brings out the worst in him and others? What is the truth lurking within? You’ll have to play to find out.
#4 Sonic x Shadow Generations
It’s honestly a bit ironic to have Sonic x Shadow Generations on this list because it’s both something old and new all at the same time. On the one hand, the game remasters the previous “Generations” that brought the older and newer Sonic The Hedgehog together to fight a familiar threat. Then, there is the brand-new content featuring Shadow The Hedgehog that expands upon his origin story even further.
Most people are interested just in the Shadow content, and we’re fine with that. After all, Shadow will be in the upcoming live-action movie, and that means people will want to “see what he’s like” before they go to theaters to see him in a different kind of action.
#3 Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
We’re honestly reluctantly talking about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 because the game honestly isn’t too different from others that have come before it. Sure, it’s better than last year’s entry, but that’s an incredibly low bar to clear, so that barely counts.
Anyway, the main campaign has you within the period of the Gulf War, where things were complicated all over the world, and you had to figure out the truth so that you could clear your teams’ names.
Honestly, most of you will get the game for its multiplayer modes and zombie battles, and we can’t blame you for that. So, if you want it? Have at it!
#2 Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
Yes, we’re putting this over the FPS title. Deal with it! Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero was a game that had many franchise fans excited from pretty much the word “go.” It promised to be something that fans of all ages could get into, and it backed that up by having a roster with over 180+ characters, including ones from the non-canon movies that not everyone has seen.
Then, when you add in the “What If?” story scenarios, the robust tournament mode, the custom matches you can create, and more, and you get arguably the most robust game the series has ever produced. Oh, and it sold 3 million on launch day. That’s pretty cool, too!
#1 Metaphor: ReFantazio
Considering the newest game from Atlus might be the 2024 “Game of the Year,” it’s only fair that we talk about Metaphor: ReFantazio in the final slot. The game puts a unique and more personal twist on the developer’s fantasy and RPG styles, and it works to great effect.
You play someone who is trying to become the king of a realm. To do so, though, you can’t just fight your way to victory; you must win the people over! You’ll build up your personal crew, strengthen your “Archetypes” in battle, and do what you must to ensure that the land has a ruler it can be proud of.
