Mafia III Trailer Details New Driving Mechanics

May 6, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Feel like a stunt driver as you speed through the streets in Mafia III.

The official 2K UK YouTube channel posted a brand new video showcasing some of the driving mechanics for the upcoming Mafia III video game. Within the trailer, we got a bit of insight as to what the developers had in mind when it came to the feel of driving around the cities and urban areas during the 1960s time period.

Matthias Worch, the design director for Mafia III, tells us that the development team is calling the actual driving mechanics “Hollywood action” which gives a player the feeling of being a stunt driver within a big Hollywood movie production.

Much of the driving mechanics have been inspired by films from the sixties like Bullet.  Additionally, these cars will handle much like how they would from the time period the game is set in. These are massive iron vehicles making it great to use for sharp drift turns around the city.

Furthermore, it’s also noted by Matthias Worch that the vehicle may behave differently depending on the surface you’re driving over. There are a few various environments within Mafia III, you may end up flying through the streets paved with asphalt or end up driving through loads of gravel. Each of these surfaces will cause the car to handle differently.

Mafia III is set in 1968 within New Bordeaux, a reimagined version of New Orleans. Players take on the role of Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam War veteran who has started to build a new crime organization to confront the Italian mob.

As for when you can get the game, Mafia III doesn’t release into the market until October 7, 2016, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For now, take a look at the latest trailer posted above or check out some of the screenshots for the game within the gallery featured down below.
