Remedy Entertainment Has Received A Loan From Tencent

September 27, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Remedy gained some new financial aid for its future projects.

Remedy Entertainment has a few projects in the works, but now they have new financial aid to ensure they can stay above their development and publishing commitments. According to a press release sent out earlier today, the studio recently unveiled that they received a $16 million loan from Tencent.

The development studio’s CEO, Tero Virtala, noted in the press release the company’s strategy going forward. Essentially, this new funding is a means to successfully support the studio’s current development projects and the next self-published games coming into the marketplace. You can read the full quote on the matter below.

Part of Remedy’s long-term strategy has been to strengthen our position in the value chain, to have more control over how our games are commercialized, and to grow our share of the value these games can create.  As we move towards self-publishing, this financing will support us in developing and fully realizing the potential of the games we have in development and successfully carrying out the commercial activities of our next self-published games. Tencent’s investment demonstrates strong confidence in Remedy’s long-term vision and strategy. – Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala

Tencent must be more than confident that Remedy Entertainment will be able to pull it off. Of course, the studio recently saw some notable success with its latest releases into the marketplace. For instance, the studio delivered Alan Wake 2 just last year, which was a big hit, and before that, in 2019, we saw a new IP from the team with Control.

This funding should help with their next few projects, including the sequel to Control and its spin-off multiplayer title, which is only known as Condor at the moment.

Meanwhile, Alan Wake 2 fans have some new content coming their way. Earlier this week, Sony held its State of Play event. During this event, Remedy Entertainment offered a new trailer for their upcoming Alan Wake 2 DLC release, The Lake House. That game expansion is set to feature a new location near Cauldron Lake, and within it, you’ll be stepping into the role of FBC agent Kiran Estevez.

Unfortunately, we’re left waiting on the specific release date of the DLC. However, it’s noted that we should see it come out sometime in October of this year. In the meantime, you can view a trailer for The Lake House DLC in the video embedded below.
