Horizon Zero Dawn Dev Explains Improvements Made To Aloy In Remastered Edition

September 25, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Aloy had a few improvements to her model.

There were plenty of rumors and speculation this month that Sony would be holding a PlayStation State of Play event. The event was quickly rumored to feature a variety of games, including some rumors that there would be remastered announcements. That event came last night, and with it also came the reveal of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

Fans quickly took to the web and questioned why the developers even needed to bring out a remastered edition of this game. After all, it’s not an older game and still holds up well today. But if you were wondering what improvements were made, the developers will likely highlight these aspects more closely as the game nears its launch. However, we did get a small sneak peek into what developers did with the Aloy character model.

We brought over Aloy’s model from
Forbidden west. We also reworked the character lighting to match the look of HFW and improve skin tones. Hair shaders are also improved. The slight blurring you see between ps4 and ps5 is because the PS4 image here has motion blur turned off https://t.co/F0ijlydZBT

The studio director and art director for Guerrilla Games, Jan-Bart van Beek, took to X and focused on the character model Aloy, which one fan pointed out online. An X post showcased the character models for Aloy in a side-by-side comparison, featuring the original PlayStation 4 version model alongside the PlayStation 5 remastered edition.

Jan-Bart van Beek took to the post and noted that the focus was on bringing over Aloy’s model from the Horizon Forbidden West release. Improvements were also made to her skin tone and hair shaders. The PlayStation 4 image was also noted to have a slight blur, as the screenshot featured the motion blur setting turned off.

We don’t have to wait too long before Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered launches. Players will find the remastered edition of the game coming out for both the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms on October 31, 2024. In the meantime, you can view the remastered edition trailer in the video we have featured down below.
