Grand Theft Auto Online Reportedly Broken On Steam Deck

September 18, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Fans are not thrilled over the latest update.

Grand Theft Auto Online might have been around for quite a few years now, but it’s still highly enjoyed today with players worldwide. So, players are interested in checking out the new content whenever an update occurs. However, the latest update that hit the game was something fans have been pleading for Rockstar Games to bring out. Unfortunately, now that this update has added this particular feature, we’re left with the game’s multiplayer component no longer playable on the Valve Steam Deck.

If you have played Grand Theft Auto Online regularly, then you know that cheaters were a pretty rampant problem. So, it was left to fans to plead for a new means to regulate the game and ensure cheaters were kicked from the lobby once caught. Fortunately, that update arrived, which delivered BattlEye to GTA Online. That’s great news for fans who want a more even playing field. But as mentioned, the Valve Steam Deck cannot run the multiplayer component now.

Thanks to GamingOnLinux, we’re finding out that this update broke the game for players on Valve Steam Deck and left them seeking an update from Rockstar Games. Unfortunately, as reported by the publication, a new FAQ update for the game alerted that BattlEye is not supported on the Steam Deck, and as a result, you will no longer be able to play GTA Online.

That said, the standard Grand Theft Auto V story campaign will still be accessible. Furthermore, neither game is officially supported for the Steam Deck. As a result, all further technical support questions should be directed to Valve’s Steam Deck support content and community.

This doesn’t sound like an update is in the works to bring the gameplay experience back up and running for Steam Deck owners. Of course, we can always wait and see if Valve does anything to bring support for BattlEye to the platform. Regardless, it looks like it will be a waiting game for now.

Instead, there is likely more focus right now on the successor to Grand Theft Auto V. We know Grand Theft Auto VI is in the works, but that’s not all. New leaks suggest that Rockstar Games might soon have Red Dead Redemption coming to the PC platform.
