In June, 11 Bit Studios announced that Frostpunk 2 had been delayed from its planned release date of July 25 until September 20. The city-building survival game was first announced in August 2021, and fans of the original title have been desperate to get their hands on the sequel ever since. For those who purchased the Deluxe Edition, that moment is just around the corner.
In a new Steam post, the developers of Frostpunk 2 announced the title’s global release times for Deluxe Edition owners. Players in the US will be able to jump in on September 17 at 10:00 AM PST / 1:00 PM EST.
Additionally, the base Frostpunk game is currently on sale for only $2.99 – or 90% off – to commemorate the sequel’s release. All DLCs have also been reduced in price by 60%.
Last week, Frostpunk 2 Game Directors Kuba Stokalski and Łukasz Juszczyk answered questions from fans during a Reddit AMA. The studio also released the upcoming game’s intro cinematic, which can be seen below.
During the question and answer session, the directors were asked what the most difficult part of creating the sequel had been.
“There were a lot of challenges when creating FP2 – using a new engine, expanding the team, managing the (biggest in 11bit portfolio so far!) project,” they responded.
“But the most intimidating part was definitely creating a successor to FP1, rather than FP1-but-new. FP2 differs from FP1 mechanically and visually, but its soul – the difficult decisions you make, the bittersweetness of surviving at a cost, the moral dilemmas – shine through. It was both scary and exhilarating to create a sequel to such a beloved game and say “I see so many unexplored territories here, let’s go off the charted maps” – but that’s the sort of team we are. We said what we wanted with Frostpunk 1; and now we have so many new things to say with Frostpunk 2.”
Frostpunk 2 will be released for all players on September 20.
