According to a new report from Deadline, the comedic first-person shooter High on Life is getting an animated comedy series adaptation. J.B. Smoove, known for his role in Curb Your Enthusiasm and as the voice of one of the weapons in the game, is set to produce the series and is likely to star in it as well.
“High on Life is wild, weird, and wonderful, and the series is going to be that and more! Get ready to laugh your way through space with some unforgettable characters like myself! We are locked and loaded and ready to go,” Smoove said.
Russell Binder and Mandy Bardisbanian (Squanch Games, Striker Entertainment) will serve as executive producers.
“It’s a video game unicorn that is both laugh-out-loud funny and carries the perfect balance of action and story to keep players engaged, and demanding more,” said Binder. “Celebrating the fact that JB Smoove is a voice in, and a fan of, the game, we felt like we didn’t have to look any further than partnering up with Alternate Side Productions to adapt this title. With DLC, merch, and a publishing program, High on Life is tailor-made for multimedia storytelling and fan engagement.”
Released in 2022, High on Life was 2022’s biggest launch on Xbox Game Pass. The title had over 7.5 million unique players by April 2023.
High on Life was released for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in December 2022 and ported to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in July 2023.
