Dragon Age: The Veilguard Relationship Levels Can Be Platonic

July 15, 2024 by Carley Garcia

You won’t need to hand out smooches to unlock the most powerful attacks.

Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard will heavily feature romance, players won’t need to woo a party member in order to unlock their best moves. The upcoming title will reportedly feature ‘Relationship Levels,’ with which the player can unlock new skills and abilities for their companions by deepening their relationship with them. We now know that these relationships don’t need to be romantic.

This information comes from Michael Gamble, an executive producer at BioWare, in a new X post. Thankfully, players won’t be locked out of powerful abilities because they don’t want to romance a certain companion. To advance skills, players need only to spend time with their party members.

You won’t have to engage in the romances and the followers will still progress as you play with them.

The upcoming entry to the Dragon Age series will feature nudity – though it’s unclear just how much nudity players can expect to see. BioWare is keeping tight-lipped about how much skin will be on display.

Additionally, while some relationships in the game will be on the spicy side, others will be more awkward and bumbling, as “each romance has a very different flavor,” according to the game’s director Corrine Busche.

“You learn who these characters are in how their romances unfold,” she added.

Earlier this month, BioWare announced the official timeline for the series. Dragon Age: The Veilguard will take place ten years after Dragon Age: Inquisition and 22 years after the Battle of Ostagar, or the start of Dragon Age: Origins.

The Veilguard will have multiple difficulty levels, including Storyteller mode and Nightmare mode, the latter of which cannot be toggled if selected at the start of the game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S this fall.
