Dragon Quest III Remake Studio Regrets Early Announcement

June 19, 2024 by Carley Garcia

Three years have passed since the title was first said to be in development.

During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct stream, fans got a detailed look at the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake scheduled to be released for PC and console this November. Despite the excitement, the game’s development studio, Team Asano, is offering their sincerest apologies for announcing the game way back in May 2021.

“We’ve been told that too much time has passed since we announced the start of development, but this isn’t unusual seeing as all of our titles have taken 3-4 years to develop,” the team wrote on X.

“However, the (initial) announcement was too early compared to others (we are reflecting on this). So, thank you very much for waiting.”

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will feature detailed pixel art combined with 3D graphics, along with improved UI and other quality-of-life improvements. Players will enjoy new battle animations, an auto-battle setting, and adjustable battle speed for those who want to speed through the beautiful title.

Square Enix also announced that an HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest I & II is in development and scheduled to be released sometime in 2025.

“Years ago, the great hero Ortega bid farewell to his wife and child as he set off on a quest to defeat the villainous Archfiend, Baramos,” the game’s description reads. “Ortega failed his quest, and Baramos still threatens the world. Now, on their sixteenth birthday, Ortega’s only child is summoned by the king of Aliahan and entrusted with a mission of the highest import: to take on Ortega’s quest, vanquish Baramos, and save the world.”

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will be released on November 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store.
