Red Dead Redemption May Be on Its Way to PC, Says Dataminer

May 13, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The game was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2010.

Nearly a decade and a half since it was first released, Red Dead Redemption may finally be on its way to PC. The news comes from an X post by Tez2, a reputable dataminer, who shared a curious screenshot on the platform today highlighting some particular code.

“Journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico in Red Dead Redemption, and its zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare now playable on PC,” the text reads. According to Tez2, it stems from Rockstar‘s launcher site file following an update earlier today.

Red Dead Redemption was released 14 years ago this week, making it the perfect time to announce a new port. It’s unclear when the announcement will be made, though this leak may help speed things along.

In 2023, the beloved title was ported to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, and due to the Xbox 360 version’s availability on the Xbox store, both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S generations of consoles can play it via backwards compatibility. PC gamers have been the only ones left out thus far.

Upon its release in 2010, the original game was nominated for dozens of awards, snagging Game of the Year at the Game Developers Choice Awards 2011 and the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards. By 2021, it had shipped nearly 23 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video games to date.

The sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, was released in October 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It was ported to PC in November 2019. Following its release, it won over 175 Game of the Year awards and has sold over 61 million copies.
