Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition Has Arrived

December 6, 2023 by Todd Black

Ready to give it another try?

UPDATE

Will you get the Ultimate Edition now that it’s out? Or has the game had its chance and you won’t risk it again? Let us know below!

ORIGINAL STORY

The tale of CD Projekt Red and their futuristic cyberpunk-themed video game is likely well-known to you now. But it’s worth retelling again because of the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, which is meant to be the “definitive version” of the title in every way that matters. If you don’t know, this “Ultimate Edition” brings together the main game that launched in 2020 and the expansion that was released a few months ago. Plus, all the updates that have helped improve the game over the years are included. They even made a special launch trailer bringing back Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba to narrate why you should “enjoy” Night City as you try to make your way through it.

But fun trailers and Keanu going, “Yeah,” aside, this “Ultimate Edition” is an interesting thing to ponder because it took the game quite some time for it to get into its “ultimate form.”

Let’s not forget that CD Projekt Red unveiled the game’s concept several years ago. Like many game developers, they teased the game and then didn’t talk about it for a while. The reason was that they were going through many changes in the background regarding who ran and helped make the project, so it didn’t have the same structure and form as their other series starring Geralt of Rivia.

Then, when the game started to get closer and we saw more of its world, it kept getting delayed. However, all would be forgiven if it was good at launch, right? Except, it wasn’t good. It was FAR from good. It was one of the biggest AAA launches in recent memory, and you had to have a super high-end PC to even TRY and play it without crashing and numerous bugs.

The game was so panned at launch that sales had to stop, returns of the title were numerous, CD Projekt Red’s stock tanked, and its goodwill amongst fans was gone for the most part. To their credit, they put their noses to the grindstone and worked for a couple of years to fix things. They released big updates, made an anime in the game’s world that was super popular, and put all their efforts into a single DLC via Phantom Liberty. When that expansion came out, it finally showed this world’s potential.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is out now for PC and console. If you’ve been waiting a long time to give the title another try, this is the one to do it with.
