Devs Offer A Behind The Scenes Look For Phantom Liberty’s Cinematic Trailer

September 21, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Are you ready for the big expansion release?

Update:

Here are what some viewers had to say about the recent trialer.

Everyone I’ve shown this trailer to is blown away by the detail. CG Idris is nearly indistinguishable from the real one. Amazing work.

Not only his way of talking but Idris facial expressions are really great, the way his eyes move and his mannerism tell a lot on what he’s saying and how he’s feeling / getting hints around himself.

I would love to see an entire Cyberpunk 2077 movie with visuals like this. Stunning. Simply stunning.

Original Story…

There’s quite a bit of excitement for fans of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The title was highly anticipated upon its initial reveal, but that launch was anything but smooth. Since its release, the developers have been striving to get the game back up and reach their standards. However, it’s in a far better state now than when it was upon the initial release. In fact, we’re getting ready for a major update to the title, along with the developers releasing the first and only expansion. Today, a new video was released on the official Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel, giving you a little more insight into the cinematic trailer.

If you recall, it wasn’t long ago that CD Projekt Red released the cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. We were given a small look at a new character who seemingly gets double-crossed and left for dead. The cinematic might have started to pave the way for Phantom Liberty’s main questline, but this new trailer is all about creating the cinematic video. We get a look behind the scenes with CD Projekt Red as they storyboard out the trailer, facial capture of their leading actor, along with animations showcasing the different builds and layers it took to get the cinematic ready.

It’s quite a treat to check out if you enjoy seeing how video games or cinematics look during development. That said, we don’t have long before we can get into the expansion ourselves. The big video game expansion is arriving into the marketplace on September 26, 2023. However, tomorrow, we’re getting the big 2.0 update. This update will provide revamps to the gameplay experience, and you should notice several changes to the systems, like perks, skills, vehicle combat, and even police chases. That update arrives tomorrow, and we just got word from the development team that players who are planning to enjoy the update alongside the expansion may want to start a new game save.

Now you can enjoy the update and expansion with your current save. However, with so many changes being made to the gameplay systems, you might find it best to start with a fresh, clean slate. Likewise, since the expansion is set to take place during the base game campaign, you might benefit from starting the game over to get a refresher on the narrative. With all that said, the big 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion will only arrive in the marketplace for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. In the meantime, you can view the behind-the-scenes of the Phantom Liberty cinematic trailer below or view the full cinematic trailer right here.
