PlayStation France CEO Philippe Cardon has told French site LePoint that Sony will likely be the last of the three major hardware manufacturers to reveal their next gen plans.
When pressed for comment on when Sony would begin discussing its next generation home console, Cardon implied that the company had no intention of making an announcement anytime soon.
"It's true that there are many rumors, but I couldn't tell you anything," he explained. "The Wii is pressed for time because it's in decline. In our case, we have a lot less pressure. We were the last to release the PS3, and we'll probably be the last to announce something [this generation]."
This announcement is hardly a surprise. Sony has been discussing the PlayStation 3's intended "ten year life cycle" on a regular basis since the console launched in 2006. As recently as three weeks ago, company reps parroted that talking point, denying rumors that they'd reveal a new console at this year's E3.
With Microsoft also hesitant to push into next-gen hardware, the wait for the next round of consoles could prove very long indeed.
