Sony: Next Console Won’t Be Announced at E3

I told you people will probably be disappointed at E3. It might be a bluff – remember how high up Sony execs denied knowledge of the PlayStation 3 slim for about twelve months before its announcement? – but for now they're playing it cool. On Monday, Andrew House laughed off the rumours, dismissing them entirely.

"I don't think we're contemplating talking about anything to do with future console iterations at this point.

"But one thing I always point to is that, somewhat in contrast to our major competitors, we have, particularly with PS2, managed the length of the lifecycle and ensured its profitability for our publishing partners for a much longer lifecycle than has been true of the competition."

I think that practically confirms the PS4 and the PS3 will live side-by-side for a little while, but I'm not sure that was ever in doubt. Kaz Hirai backs up the sentiment in his statement on the situation.

"Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3," he said. "I've always said a ten-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that."

Not unless you'd like to compete with Microsoft or something…
