PlayStation 5 Cloud Streaming Beta Has Started To Roll Out

August 8, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Some users are already gaining this feature.

Cloud gaming is slowly becoming more mainstream. It’s not at a level quite yet where we’re seeing most players adopting this method of gaming. Most might even say that downloads or physical copies are still far superior to cloud gaming. Mainly, it boils down to your internet connection when it comes to the experience you’ll have with cloud gaming. However, it wasn’t too long ago that Sony unveiled their plans to adopt cloud gaming into their PlayStation 5 library. Now we’re finally seeing some users gain access to the beta.

Thanks to a VGC report, we’re now discovering that some PlayStation 5 users are gaining access to the PlayStation 5 cloud streaming beta. This feature was first revealed in June when Sony announced that PlayStation Plus Premium members could soon stream select PlayStation 5 video game titles. At first, this would come through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and game trials. However, there would also be the added benefit of playing on the cloud for select PlayStation 5 digital games that you own. When Sony revealed this to the public, there wasn’t any indication as to when players would gain access to this feature.

But now select players are starting to gain access, so the rollout may soon hit your account. From what the VGC has reported, players will have options to stream games from 720P up to 4K. Of course, it might take some time to see how well the service holds up with players. As mentioned, cloud gaming might not work for everyone as it depends on your internet connection and the infrastructure from Sony. Although, it’s only something that will get better over time.

If you’re unfamiliar with cloud gaming, then this is a new means to enjoy video games. Rather than sitting through the download and installation of a video game, players can go through the title over the internet. That has opened up the ability to play video games on various hardware setups. Those setups can be anything from lower-end PCs, Smart TVs, to even your phone, as you’re just relying on the internet connection to enjoy these games. Sony is just getting into this cloud gaming on the PlayStation 5, but there are already several services out there that look to offer the same experience for PC games, even Microsoft providing this for their select video game titles.
