There is no shortage of video games released into the marketplace. We see all kinds of titles released for just about any genre within a given day of the week. However, not all of these games are AAA titles, so you could find these titles going well under the radar. Indie titles might not get as much of the spotlight in the media, but it also doesn’t help that they compete against a swarm of bootleg titles. Fortunately, Valve is trying to clean up its Steam marketplace to ensure some of these low-effort and stolen-asset projects don’t land on their storefront.
Today we’re finding out that Valve removed a wide collection of video games from the Steam storefront. This report comes from PCGamesN, as it looks like Valve wants to eliminate the variety of bootleg games that might end up on the digital storefront going forward. We’re unsure how massive this ban was in the marketplace and when the next wave of game removals will be. But at the very least, it’s nice knowing that some of these games that take advantage of stolen work from other projects won’t be featured on one of the latest digital storefronts for the PC platform.
It’s not uncommon to see plenty of games take liberty with names and even concepts from popular franchises. For instance, there were quite a few headlines this week from a clearly poor ripoff of The Last of Us for the Nintendo Switch. So, needless to say, there are likely quite a few storefronts out there that could do with some housekeeping. But for now, it looks like Valve is making an effort, and that might help some of these smaller indie games to get some proper spotlight on the storefront.
Meanwhile, since we’re talking about Steam, then we can’t forget to mention that right now, the digital storefront is featuring a Summer Sale event promo. Steam is known for its seasonal sales, and this one is no different. There are countless video game titles being offered right now at a steep discount. This means you can pick up on some of those passed games when they initially launched without breaking the bank. Likewise, the sale might also help you get something new to enjoy this weekend. But fortunately, you have a bit longer to sift through the deals pages as the Steam Summer Sale goes on until July 13, 2023. So don’t wait too long before diving into the storefront.
