Even More Nintendo Direct Rumors Surface

June 19, 2023 by Todd Black

Can we just get an announcement already?

You can tell when a gamer community, in particular, is getting desperate for something to happen because they’ll go all out to try and say that something “will happen” or “will happen soon” based on nothing more than “sources.” Sadly, this is something that is a regular thing for when gamers hope a Nintendo Direct is coming. To be fair, typically, the Directs are one of the best things in the gaming year, as each one often has big surprises, new looks at big games, and gets Nintendo Switch owners hyped about what is coming up. But we haven’t had one since February, and that’s got gamers rather antsy.

Plus, when you add that anxiousness to the gaming week we had where Xbox, Capcom, Ubisoft, and more came forward with massive presentations for their upcoming titles, yet Nintendo was quiet, you can see why they want a Direct sooner rather than later.

But that’s where the problems start, isn’t it? Because ever since that week of gaming got close, people have been predicting a Nintendo Direct with regular frequency even when Nintendo has hinted at nothing of the kind. Fast forward to this past weekend, and yet another rumor dropped. The source came from a “Brazilian website with a reliable record,” and they were told that they had sources inside Nintendo that said a Direct would come “next week.” That rumor spread, and then Insiders like Stealth started reporting about it on Twitter:

According to this rumor, there is going to be a Nintendo Direct next week which will have both 1st Party and 3rd Party games (so not a Partner showcase).

Multiple people have said something similar, so I guess we'll need to wait and see!https://t.co/lXEc8MTtL5

To their credit, Stealth did outline why we might get one soon, and it all has to do with content. You see, Nintendo has no big 1st party games announced once July ends. They shadow-dropped an announcement for a June title, but that doesn’t really count, given what the game is.

They typically have a Direct during this time of year to highlight their “end-of-year lineup,” and that’s what many are hoping for.

The Nintendo Switch has been very good about having at least 1-2 AAA titles in the first or third-party sense during the end of the year so that gamers have plenty to “feast on.” According to the rumors, there will be 1st party announcements, which will make gamers happy.

But we need to be clear about this. These rumors have been very frequent lately. So if you’re seeing these online, don’t take them as an absolute certainty. They’ll only be a certainty when Nintendo officially announces the Direct on their Twitter feeds. So be wary!
