Redfall Developers Have Started Their Next AAA Game Project

May 8, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Will Arkane deliver a solid experience after the Redfall failure?

Redfall was one of the hyped-up and anticipated exclusives for Xbox. After Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, it came with a slew of talented development studios, Arkane being one of them. However, after already establishing a deal with Sony with their Deathloop title, Microsoft allowed the company to release the game on Sony with their following title, Redfall, being a Microsoft exclusive. So there were plenty of marketing materials released to get Xbox and PC players ready for Redfall.

Unfortunately, the game launch was disastrous as fans and critics tore the game apart. In fact, this even prompted the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, to comment on the matter. Phil apologized for the launch of Redfall but continues to have faith that Arkane can deliver a solid product. We might see just what the folks over at Arkane will be able to come up with now that they can fully gain the resources and support from Microsoft when it comes to developing their next game.

Today we’re finding out, thanks to Gamerant, that there was a new job posting for Arkane. This posting alerts potential candidates that this would be for an upcoming AAA project for the studio. Now nothing in the posting actually indicates just what this game project would entail, so we don’t know if it’s another installment to an already established franchise like Deathloop and Dishonored or if this will be something new entirely. At any rate, we know that the development team is also continuing to support Redfall.

It’s far too early to tell if the studio can turn around Redfall in order to get this game into a place that meets their standards along with fans. For instance, we know that the developers are striving to bring out a 60 FPS performance mode, as the game is currently stuck at just 30 FPS right now. However, Arkane might be keen on the idea of just moving forward with a new game as soon as possible after their disappointing release.

At any rate, with the game just entering development, it will be a little while before we get any official announcement about what this new game will entail. For those of you who have yet to give Redfall a chance, the game is available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and available on Xbox Game Pass. You can check out our Before You Buy coverage on the title within the video we have embedded below.
