Ubisoft has officially confirmed Watch Dogs 2. They also revealed in the same announcement that Watch Dogs 2 would have full DirectX 12 support.

Ubisoft made the announcement during an AMD event, so it seems safe to assume that it will also receive optimizations on AMD graphics cards. Outside of this, Ubisoft did not share more details on the game, such as platforms and release date.

While we only received the official confirmation today, it has been known for a while that Watch Dogs 2 was in development. They stated plans to expand upon the original game with the sequel on January 2015. Ubisoft also projected a release window from from April 1st, 2016 to March 31st, 2017. There have also been rumors that the game was in development since April 2015, and that it would be replacing what would have been this year’s annual Assassin’s Creed game.

The original Watch Dogs was released on May 27, 2014, on Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and on Wii U on November 2014. You played Aiden Pearce, a grey hat hacker who hacks Chicago’s centralized networking systems in his quest for vengeance after a failed hit on him leads to the death of his niece.

While Watch Dogs set sales records, it is also remembered for several launch issues. It faced its largest controversy after players found unused enhanced graphics settings hiding in the PC port. Ubisoft eventually patched the game to bring graphics in line with what fans expected.

The DirectX 12 announcement is a hopeful sign Watch Dogs 2 will not face the same mistakes. Ubisoft’s own developers have talked about how it will make PC and Xbox One development easier and more efficient. Are you looking forward to Watch Dogs 2 ? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
