Sony confirmed in their Game Developers Conference press conference that PlayStation 4 exclusives Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last Guardian will be releasing in 2016.
The GDC press conference was the same event where Sony revealed the release details for PlayStation VR just a few hours ago. Sony has yet to provide full release details for both titles, but they have also not revealed new information about either title for some time. For fans who are anticipating these exclusives, this is welcome news.
Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role-playing game from Guerrilla Games, set in an alternate future where humanity has regressed to a tribal civilization and gigantic animal-like machines roam the Earth. You play Aloy, an archer-hunter, who undertakes a Bildungsroman after being outcast from her own tribe. You can learn more about the game’s origins and watch its last revealed demo from November.
The Last Guardian is an action-adventure puzzle game that has been in development since 2007, and is definitely even more long awaited and highly anticipated. The game is being designed and directed by Fumito Ueda, originally under Sony studio Team Ico, and now as head of his own independent studio, genDESIGN. Rumors that development was undergoing problems behind the scenes and that the game has been cancelled has persisted for years, but Sony has repeatedly assured fans it remained a work in progress, and also apologized for the lack of news. Sony finally re-unveiled it as a PlayStation 4 game in E3 2015. Ueda and genDESIGN also assured fans they would continue to update them online. Unfortunately, the last we heard of this title was an exhibit at Tokyo Game Show.
