The Nintendo Switch is a massively popular video game console. After the less-than-stellar launch of the Nintendo Wii U, the company had to think of something to catch players’ attention quickly. Fortunately, their next bout with a competitive piece of hardware was a success. This hybrid console proved to be incredibly trendy with players. They could take their games on the go while also having a dock to play these titles at home. Of course, the Nintendo Switch is getting a bit old, and there have been persistent rumors that Nintendo would be delivering an enhanced version of the Nintendo Switch.
That hasn’t happened yet, and while we don’t know if the next successor will just be an improved Nintendo Switch model, there is something in the works. A new report from CMA has fans talking about the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor. This report was mainly focused on the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a deal that we’re still waiting to see if Microsoft can successfully follow through with. However, during the report, there was a reference to Nintendo, which mentions the future of the company.
Nintendo Switch Online has been excluded from our shares as Nintendo’s cloud gaming service is very limited. Nintendo’s cloud gaming service is only available on the Nintendo Switch device and [REDACTED].
In particular, the report mentions that the Nintendo Switch uses cloud gaming and online service. But that service is only available on the Nintendo Switch right now. This report goes on to say that the service is also available on another piece of hardware, but that hardware note was redacted. So we don’t know what exactly this hardware is being called, but at least we know that there is some work going toward the successor.
Of course, it wasn’t long ago now that Nintendo made mentioned that there were still plenty of new games coming out for the Nintendo Switch. So it doesn’t seem like they are keen on delivering this next hardware iteration anytime soon. Likewise, it’s been expected for a while that the Nintendo Switch Online service would carry over to the next hardware release. So while we don’t have anything particularly new to unveil, it’s at least one of the first few signs that we’re seeing a potential direct sign on the next iteration.
