Will A Nintendo Direct Coming In the First Week Of February?

January 31, 2023 by Todd Black

We’re fine with this rumor being accurate!

Well, it’s that time of year again. It’s time for rumors to start about the potential Nintendo Direct that we may or may not get in the upcoming month. Since the Directs started in the Wii U era, they have become a constant source of joy, depression, and stress amongst the fanbase. Why? Because Nintendo hasn’t always been consistent on when they have a Direct, nor in what they show at a Direct. Sometimes they’re good with many announcements, and other times they’ve been called a “waste of space and announcements.” So with 2023 now a whole month in, it’s fair to think that one is coming soon.

That goes double when considering how previous years have had a Nintendo Direct in February. Thus, the rumors are starting to flow. This time, the rumor came from Reddit. The mods of this particular Reddit subtopic clarified that they couldn’t “confirm” that the person providing the info was accurate in their statement. Said statement was that the Direct would arrive next Tuesday, the 7th. Directs have come on multiple days during the work week, so it could land there.

Ignoring the potential falsehood of the rumor, let’s talk about what could be shown at the event. As of now, 2023 has a stacked card that extends to May. But after that? It’s a little hazy.

There’s little doubt that one of the main highlights of the Direct will be The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. The game finally got its release date and title announcement last year, and we only know certain things about the title. Thus, a new trailer and breakdown of the game are warranted.

Another thing that could pop up is Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp. The title is done and was supposed to be released last year. However, the war in Ukraine led Nintendo to indefinitely delay the title out of respect for what was happening there. That being said, the war is still going on, so when it might be released is uncertain.

There are also heavy rumors that a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey will be revealed. It has been over five years since a new Mario platforming title has come out, so we are due.

Naturally, there will likely be surprises in the Nintendo Direct, including new 1st and 3rd party titles that no one saw coming. But until Nintendo officially says a Direct is arriving next week, take every rumor with a grain of salt.
