Skull and Bones No Longer Available to Pre-Purchase On PlayStation Store

January 23, 2023 by Todd Black

Ar…you’re getting a refund!

Ubisoft has been in the spotlight for many negative reasons. But the one that most people are talking about currently is the most recent delay of Skull and Bones. We’re saying “most recent delay” because the game has been delayed many times since its first announcement trailer years ago. The keyword is “years ago.” The pirate game was to be the ultimate pirate series in concept—one where you could sail the seas and live a pirate’s life in many forms. However, despite progress on the title, Ubisoft delayed it once again, and that’s where the new twist in the story comes in.

Previously, the game was supposed to arrive in March, but now it doesn’t have a release date. If you look up the “new release date,” it’ll give you a release window of a year. That means it could come out in 2024 if it doesn’t get delayed again.

The delay is a huge blow to gamers because many were excited to get their hands on the pirate-themed adventure finally. There was even a new video shown that highlighted outposts and how you can split your crew to tackle a challenge. But now, if you go to the PlayStation store, you won’t even be able to pre-order the game. Multiple gamers have posted that they’ve received refunds from the PlayStation Store for the title. The ones who made the posts noted that they were surprised by this and made it clear that they didn’t ask for a refund.

One person on Reddit even straight-up asked if the game was still coming out based on the refund they got.

The mystery goes deeper as the “Deluxe Edition” of the game is completely removed from the store. So if you go to the PlayStation and type up Skull and Bones, you’ll only see the base title, and you’ll only be able to “Wishlist” it. Why is this going on? There’s no explanation yet by either Ubisoft or Sony, but that’s not a good look for the game.

You can tack this incident on to all the other woes that Ubisoft has been having. The big incident involved another title of theirs in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, where the Ubisoft CEO said they were disappointed with its December and January sales, then noted they canceled or delayed other projects due to that.

The CEO also called out developers, and though he apologized for it, it still left the company with a black eye.
