DICE has released a new developer diary for their upcoming game Mirror’s Edge Catalyst that provides us with an extensive look at the gameplay features and improvements players can expect.
In the video, several DICE developers discuss what made the original Mirror’s Edge so unique and how Catalyst seeks to build on that foundation. Free roaming, traversal, and the overhauled combat system are all highlighted by the developers.
DICE’s staff also discuss the music and audio effects of the original Mirror’s Edge and how they’re working to improve those aspects of the game.
A closed beta for the game will take place prior to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can sign up on this website to gain access but you are not guaranteed entry. Details about when the beta will take place have not yet been confirmed.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was originally due to be released on February 23rd but has since been delayed until May 24th. Explaining the decision, producer Sara Jansson said the game was pushed back in order to “make sure that when you step into the massive City of Glass and experience the rise of Faith, it’s as entertaining, impressive, and memorable as it can be.”
Faith will have a range of new tools for exploring the City of Glass, including the recently detailed MAG rope which gives here Spider-man-like swinging abilities to move quickly through the environment. You can find more information about how combat and movement will work in the game here.
