While we’ve known about the game for less than a year, it feels like an eternity since Fire Emblem Engage was first announced. The latest entry in the title from Intelligent Systems surprised many when it was shown off during a Nintendo Direct due to its visuals and new mechanics of gameplay. But now, after many teases and introductions, the game has launched on Nintendo Switch! The title is the first significant 1st-party title for the Switch in 2023, and many hope it’ll set a standard for future things. But if you don’t know much about the game, we can help you.
The new title focuses on the character Alear. Like other games in the series, you can choose whether Alear is male or female. Either way, they are the last in a line of Divine Dragons sworn to protect the realm. But after an intense battle, Alear is put to rest for 1000 years. They wake up when the presence of their great enemy, The Fell Dragon, starts to re-emerge alongside them.
After getting guidance from their mother, Alear must travel the land and find the twelve Emblem Rings so that they and their allies can stop the Fell Dragon once and for all!
As you travel, you’ll meet a menagerie of characters from different kingdoms and with different backgrounds and motives. You’ll be able to craft the team of your dreams and equip them with the Emblems to unlock even more power and abilities.
The Emblems in question are infused with the spirits of past heroes from the franchise. However, each one plays differently and, when “engaged,” can harness incredible power that can instantly change the flow of battle. So you’ll want to try them all out to see what they can do!
In celebration of Fire Emblem Engage coming out, a launch trailer shows off the game’s many elements. You’ll see Alear, their allies, their enemies, the Emblems, and some of the action you can expect, so check it out below:
But wait! That’s only part of what the game is offering. Alongside its launch comes the Expansion Pass, which will release four waves of content for you to enjoy. As teased by the team, the content will include new Emblems and a new side story. The first two new Emblems are Tiki and the trio of Edelgard, Dmitri, and Claude!
So if you’re ready for a new tactical RPG experience, get Fire Emblem Engage!
