IO Interactive has revealed that Hitman 3 will be getting its long-awaited Freelancer mode on January 26. In addition, the developers have shared a brand new cinematic mission briefing trailer. This aims to get players up to speed on exactly how the new Freelancer game mode will work when it goes live in a couple of weeks.
The addition of Freelancer mode comes as part of larger changes to the Hitman 3 experience. The game will be getting something of a makeover thanks to the addition of the first two Hitman titles. This will create a three-game bundle to be known going forward as Hitman World of Assassination. Ahead of the big transformation for gaming’s most notoriously nondescript assassin, you can check out the mission briefing trailer for Hitman 3‘s upcoming Freelancer mode right here.
In a nutshell, Freelancer mode looks set to send players off on a new roguelike single-player campaign. It’ll be up to players to navigate the world of assassination as they’re tasked with bringing about the downfall of a number of various criminal organisations. The randomised aspects of this new mode of gameplay mean that players will need to think about their preparations and methodology prior to their efforts to take down a particular syndicate. Alongside the greater level of freedom players will have over their exploits as Agent 47 comes a greater need for strategic thinking.
This new game mode will include a number of independently rolled, randomised elements. Players will need to be much more switched on when they’re out freelancing, as success isn’t guaranteed. Freelancer mode will provide players with all available information, but there’s plenty of scope for things to go wrong, or even for objectives to not be able to be completed on a particular run.
Players will need to carefully consider and curate their preferred stash of gear, as well as decide if they’re suitably equipped for a particular mission. In this new mode, they’ll run the risk of losing gear and having to start over if they bite off more than they can chew, in assassination terms. Either way, those who’ve always longed to go off-book in the world of Hitman 3 will surely enjoy the new Freelancer mode, as there’ll be no guided mission stories to follow, with the gameplay much more responsive to the player’s actions during each run.
Hitman 3 will see the inclusion of Freelancer mode alongside its transformation into Hitman World of Assassination on January 26. The game is available to play now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
