AEW: Fight Forever Will Reportedly Not Have An Annual Release

December 7, 2022 by Dennis Patrick

A series of updates?

For years the wrestling video game genre has been dominated by WWE. The franchise received countless video game titles released into the marketplace. Like other sports games, we also typically saw WWE receive an annual release. This provided some new characters and another narrative to progress through, along with other features or notable additions. But that’s reportedly not going to be the same setup AEW will be taking when it comes to their line of video games. With their debut title coming out, it’s slated to be a game supported for the long haul.

News of this comes from a report by Fightful Select. The subscription-based publication provides content for professional wrestling news. In a recent announcement, it’s been alerted that Evil Uno revealed the plans for AEW: Fight Forever’s future. Evil Uno reportedly said that AEW: Fight Forever would not have an annual release. Instead, the plan would be for AEW: Fight Forever to be supported with different updates. Similar to other games where we see seasons or expansions launch to give players more content to play through.

It’s expected that we’ll see a bigger roster of wrestlers with the game continuing to add characters into the mix. But we’re not sure just how often we’ll see these updates land on the game. Likewise, we’re uncertain just what other updates would land on the game if it’s not strictly character-based. At any rate, we’re still left waiting on just when AEW: Fight Forever would even hit the marketplace, as there’s no specific release date attached to the game quite yet.

In other recent news regarding the upcoming launch of AEW: Fight Forever, we learned that CM Punk would remain on the virtual roster. There were plenty of rumors surrounding the future of this wrestler after the backstage brawl involving the individual. Despite the future of CM Punk seemingly being uncertain regarding his spot on AEW, it was unveiled that there were no plans to remove any wrestler from the game. Anyone that you have already seen featured within the marketing materials for AEW: Fight Forever will remain within the game. Although, with the series of updates potentially adding more wrestlers into the mix, it will be interesting to see if certain wrestlers end up getting scrapped from the game entirely.

Again, we don’t have a specific release date attached to AEW: Fight Forever. But we know that when the video game hits the marketplace, you’ll be able to pick up a copy on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
