PSP’s Star Wars Battlefront II To Soon Join PlayStation Plus Premium Tier?

December 2, 2022 by Paul James

Premium games at last!

Fans of Star Wars have been eating well in the video game landscape for a few years now. From the release of Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, to the announcements of Star Wars Eclipse, a sequel to Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and of course, several remasters and re-releases. Now it seems that other classic Star Wars titles are on the way, this time, to PlayStation Plus’ Premium tier of its new PlayStation Plus system. It seems like the 2005 fan favourite, Star Wars: Battlefront II might be coming to the service imminently.

While the page listing has disappeared now, temporarily fans could see the PSP title listed on the PlayStation Network, indicating its impending release. The description read,

Experience Star Wars Battlefront II (Classic, 2005) originally released on the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, enhanced with replay, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters.

Fight on the front lines where all weapons and vehicles are yours. And now, for the first time, STAR WARS Battlefront II lets you…

– Fight as a Jedi: Gain the ability to wield a lightsaber and use the powers of the Force like Yoda and many other heroes and villains.

– Battle in Space: Dogfight in classic starships or land in a Star Destroyer and fight on foot aboard enemy ships.

– Play in 13 new locations: Fight in environments from STAR WARS: Episode Ill, such as Mustafar and the Wookiee home of Kashyyyk.

– Plus three exclusive challenges: fight as a Rebel Raider, Imperial Enforcer or Rogue Assassin in tours of duty created just for this version.

This title has been converted from the PSP (PlayStation Portable) version to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles and offers newly added features. Consequently, there may be times when the title plays differently than the PSP (PlayStation Portable) version, or when some features may cause the title to not function correctly. This version does not support PSP (PlayStation Portable) system peripherals, so some features may not be available.

PlayStation have been widely criticised in recent months following the lacklustre support of their Premium/Deluxe tier, and the lack of games that have come to the tier relative to the cost of entry and the number of games featuring in the Essential and Extra tiers. Notably, those in regions without PlayStation Plus streaming capabilities, and hence can only work with the Deluxe tier, have been especially frustrated with many of the limited numbers of titles coming to the top tier being PS3 titles – something that cannot be played without streaming, and therefore have had months of new games, despite paying the top cost. At least with Battlefront II seemingly on the way, it seems that fans will have something for their money soon.
