The story of GTA 6, or Grand Theft Auto 6, is a very curious one. The previous title in the line, GTA V, is one of the best-selling video games of all time, and we mean that on a grand scale. It’s sold well over 100 million units, and to this day, no one is really sure why. None of the other titles in the run had sold near that much, and yet V managed to hit a sweet spot with gamers across the board. Between it and GTA Online, gamers have had a lot to look forward to in terms of content. Understandably, however, they still want the next title, and yet Rockstar Games has given no indication of when it might come out.
To be clear, we do know that the game is coming because Rockstar Games have announced that themselves. However, any other information is a closely guarded secret–not that people haven’t tried to get it out of them. Case in point: during a recent charity event called GamesAid, a go-kart racing event featuring video game developers. Rather charming, right? Well, some of the team from Rockstar North were there and when doing an interview about the event, one of the interviewers immediately asked about GTA 6 and when it would arrive at last. The response?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Well played, Rockstar dev, well played. The dev also joked about how they were going to “use their GTA skills” on the go-kart course, an obvious nod to the crazy driving people like to do in the games themselves.
Does this give us any new information on the title? Obviously not, but does it give us hope for the future? Sure. We know that there are going to be other interviewers like that one person who are going to poke and prod at the Rockstar crew until they get the answers. To be clear here, we’re not saying you should harass Rockstar Games–there has already been enough harassment of game devs recently over certain titles and it shouldn’t happen at all. But if certain gaming sites get close to Rockstar Games employees and are able to sneak in a question? Well, that’s just good clean fun.
Plus, as you can see, the Rockstar employees are clearly trained to not answer questions of that nature, so it’d be something to catch them off guard.
Again, we do know that GTA 6 is being made. Rockstar has even admitted that they have stopped some support for their other titles so that they can focus on the new game. Aside from that? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens over the next year. Maybe a new adventure is really on the horizon.
