Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Will Take Around 40 Hours To Complete

August 29, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Wo, that’s quite Long.

Although it may be a little while before the game launches for the general public, some new details have emerged about Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. The exciting-looking dark fantasy RPG will get its first proper outing during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Those attending will be amongst the first to try out the game’s playable demo. Hopefully, a demo for everyone else could be coming soon after that. However, while we wait for news on that, there’s some new information coming out about the game’s main campaign.

In conversation with Spanish publication Vandal, and spotted in Push Square, the game’s producer Masaaki Yamagiwa has shed some new light on the action. Apparently, the game will take around 40 hours for players to complete, with missions split into individual adventures. The game’s level design will also follow something of a linear structure, reportedly a deliberate choice on Team Ninja’s part. Speaking of gameplay, we were recently treated to a brand new trailer detailing the epic martial arts action and gorgeous environments that players can expect from Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Check it out right here to get a feel for the history-meets-fantasy vibes of the game.

The interview with Masaaki Yamagiwa also details a few other aspects of gameplay, notably how exploration will work with the game’s Nioh-style quest structure. While the map featured won’t be a single map with interconnecting regions, each independent area of the map will be able for players to explore in a number of ways. There’ll be an enhanced focus on verticality in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. In a move that serves as an evolution of the Nioh saga, the maps in this game will be larger and with a great deal more height. As a result of this, players will be able to make use of jump functions to reach higher areas and unlock a variety of new routes and passageways through each level.

The 40-hour estimate for the completion of the main story is explained as a minimum figure, based upon the amount of exploration the player wants to actually do. Basically, it seems as if the game can last for quite some time, especially for players who want to experience all that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has to offer. The action RPG will also make use of online multiplayer features so that squads of up to three people can join in on the action. Whether or not this will be in the game’s main campaign mode or in other, possibly PvP or alternative gameplay modes, we don’t yet know. Either way, there’s clearly a lot to look forward to from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo with this engaging-looking adventure.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will launch on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC at some point in early 2023. It’ll also be launching as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass. We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for news on a confirmed release window in the meantime.
