Bethesda Denies Punitive Doom 4 Delays

October 21, 2011 by Josh Harmon

PR rep Pete Hines says the allegations are "complete bollocks" and that no title has been delayed at id.

Earlier today, we reported on a rumor published by Kotaku that indicated Bethesda Softworks had delayed Doom 4 indefinitely due to concerns about the way id Software handled launch of their latest title, Rage. The delay ws the product of a "serious lack of confidence in the project management at id," brought on by the graphical bugs and middling review scores that plagued the game's release.

Bethesda's Vice President of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, has now stepped forward to publically deny the rumors via Twitter. In one tweet, Hines referred to the story as "complete bollocks." In another, he went on to add that "games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed – indefinitely or otherwise."

id CEO John Carmack has been talking about Doom 4 since as far back as 2008, a full year before Bethesda parent company Zenimax Media acquired the Quake and Wolfenstein developer. Details have been scarce in the time since, without a single screenshot of the project released thus far.
