While many of Stray‘s chapters are pretty linear, Chapter 4 The Slums and Chapter 6 The Slums Part 2 open things up a lot. When in the Slums chapters, the player is given a lot of different options as to what they want to do. They can go straight to the next main story beat or explore a little bit and find some quest items. One such quest is needed to progress the story in Chapter 6 and requires the player to get a poncho and give it to a chilly robot.
While many of the other quests are pretty straightforward, the poncho questline is a little bit unclear for whatever reason. This has caused a lot of wandering around in circles looking for what to do with the poncho in Chapter 4 after you can first acquire it.
Getting the poncho, however, is also its own can of worms. It’s not the most intuitive quest as it requires purchasing something from the store that you’d have no reason to think is connected to getting robot clothes. Take a look below to find out exactly what you need to do to get the poncho and who to give it to in Chapters 4 or 6.

How to Get the Poncho in Stray
The entire poncho questline can be completed in either Chapters 4 or 6. It’s not necessary to do in Chapter 4, but if you get it out of the way early, you can save yourself some time in Chapter 6. To get the poncho, you’ll need to pick up the Electric Cable from the shop which can only be traded for a bottle of Super Spirit Detergent. To get the detergent, head to the washers.
To get there from the shop (which is down the stairs to the right of the Guardian) go up the stairs to get to the area with the Guardian and then turn left, facing the way you initially entered the Slums from. Climb your way up to the roofs and start heading to the right. You’ll run into two robots tossing paint cans to one another above the Super Spirit cleaners. Talk to them and you’ll be prompted to knock one off balance when they’re tossing a can causing it to drop to the ground below.
The owner of the cleaners is fed up with the robots always dropping paint cans so they open the door to the building and try to start cleaning the floors. Luckily, this means you can jump down to the ground level and sneak inside the open door. Jump up to the table to the left of the door when you first walk in and you’ll find a bottle of Super Spirit Detergent. Head back to the shopkeeper.
At the shop, trade the detergent for the Electric Wire. As just about anyone will tell you once you have it, the Electric Wire is of good quality and that Grandma will make some nice clothes out of it if you bring it to her. As it so happens, that’s exactly what you’re going to do. Return to the Guardian and then turn around facing the Slums’ alleys.
If you inspect the street signs, you’ll find a quick way to get to Grandma’s clothing shop, but if you take the leftmost path through the allies, you’ll find her in no time near two robots huddled together on the ground. Give her the Electric Wire and she’ll make you a nice poncho.
How to Use the Poncho in Stray
Now that you have the poncho, you’ve got to find a robot who’s cold and could use some warmth. In Chapter 4, you won’t be able to find anyone complaining about being cold. Because of this, a lot of players are getting stumped on what to do with the poncho and sticking in Chapter 4 far longer than they need to because there’s really no indication that you’ll be coming back to the slums.
The robot that needs the poncho is Elliot, who works in the repair shop, but there’s no indication that he needs it in Chapter 4 (despite the fact that you can give it to him in that chapter.) It’s not until you return to the Slums in Chapter 6 that he starts to shiver and says he needs to be warmed up before he can start repairing items again.
You can find Elliot’s repair shop directly across from Grandma’s Clothing Store. The repair shop’s door is closed but if you scratch on it (it’s the door to the right of the two sitting robots) someone will come and open it for you. Run upstairs and you’ll find Elliot toiling away at his desk.
You’ll need to come here in Chapter 6 if you want him to repair the key item essential for moving the story forward, but to do it, Elliot needs to be bundled up in the poncho. As mentioned above, you can get it to him in Chapters 4 or 6.
