PlayStation Vita Games Price Points Revealed

October 11, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

The prices of games for the PS Vita have been revealed. As expected, they cost a lot more in Japan.

There's been plenty of revelations lately regarding Sony's upcoming PlayStation Vita console, which is set to launch early next year in the United States and Europe, and on December 17 in Japan.

We've seen what the boxes look like and we know what some of the system's launch titles will be.

According to Famitsu, when the PS Vita goes on sale this December, it will cost ¥25,000 or US$325. Depending on how the economy is looking next month, that will probably go up, but it shouldn't matter unless Sony's being fussy about the exchange rates. How much will the games themselves cost?

The Japanese magazine reports that Uncharted: Golden Abyss will cost ¥5,980 ($77) for the physical version, while the downloadable version will go for ¥4,900 ($62). Judging from the generally higher prices games sell for in Japan, Kotaku's Brian Ashcraft suggests it's safe to assume that the prices will range from $49 to $59.

Ridge Racer is expected to cost less at ¥3,980 ($51) for the cartridge and ¥3,580 ($46) for the digital version, presumably to attract consumers for the Vita's launch. Additionally, the digital version of the game will be priced at a much lower price of ¥2,980 or $39, which as Ashcraft notes is closer to $29.

Katamari: No Vita—a name which could very easily be mistranslated as "Katamari: No Life" if one were to do so from Latin, is priced at ¥4,980 ($65) for the physical edition and ¥4,480 ($58) for the download version.

Regardless of how much they'll actually cost once they go stateside, it's nice to note the price difference between cartridge and download versions.
