PS Vita Box Design and Launch Apps Revealed for Europe

October 3, 2011

European PS Vita packaging revealed along with launch apps and more.

Adam Grant, European product manager for Sony, has revealed the box design and launch apps for the "PS Vita" in Europe. The European box design is similar to its Japanese counter-part which was revealed at the Tokyo Game Show last month. The box art features all the launch apps which come pre-installed on the PS Vita with ugly circular icons, but that's just my opinion.

Here's a list of the launch apps:

Welcome Park –  A series of mini-games to explore and discover the features of Sony's latest handheld.

Party – An app that allows you to chat with your friends while playing games and create parties with up to eight members.

Playstation Store – The Playstation store app that allows you to download games, trailers, DLC and apps.

Group Messaging – An app that allows you to stay connected with your PSN friends by sending PSN messages to a single person or multiple people at once.

Photos – PS Vita allows you to capture photos and this is the direct link to the camera and also the photo viewer application.

Trophies – An app that allows you to store and track trophies earned on both the PS Vita and PS3.

Friends – Your Friends List will allow you to search and keep in touch with your PSN Friends.

Internet Browser – PS Vita's web browser which will offer a great web browsing experience over Wi-Fi and 3G.

Near – An exclusive location based gaming network for PS Vita. With near you can stay connected to all of your PlayStation Network friends and make new ones by sharing information about yourself, based on your location. Press the Update button and find new people based on where you are, challenge them to games or play cooperatively and enjoy a completely unique gaming experience on PS Vita. You can even send and receive new levels, unlocks and in-game items to enhance the way you play – everywhere you go will hold new surprises. You can view your friends’ game preferences, see how many trophies they’ve earned and compare your stats to see who the better player is.

More details will be revealed in the future. PS Vita is scheduled to release early 2012 in Europe and North America.
